The Kincardine and Mearns Community Safety Group is funding an exciting new initiative in Portlethen. Using a grant of £570 three evenings of community cinema showing of films are to take place in Portlethen.

Kevin Hutchens, Chairperson of the Kincardine and Mearns Community Safety Group stated:

"This is an exciting and innovative initiative developed by the local community which will provide new leisure opportunities for the young people of Portlethen. Showing of films will be preceded by community safety adverts which will help get basic safety messages over. A charge will be made and it is hoped that after the first three sessions the community cinema, planned to be based in the new Academy will become self financing.

"This will help provide diversionary activities for young people who may otherwise have become involved in anti-social behaviour, and as such clearly fits into our priority areas of work. As such it was recommended by PC Shona Grimmer and supported by Inspector Jim Gordon who see the importance of such initiatives as reducing petty crime in the community. I look forward to its success in the coming months."
