Crimestoppers - information for users
|
Home page
| Crimestoppers web site
- Crimestoppers is not a police
department despite the fact that police vans often carry
the Crimestoppers phone number.
- Crimestoppers is a charity funded by
donations.
- It provides a freephone number for
the reporting of information about Crime - 0800 555 111.
- If you call this number you are calling a call centre in Glasgow.
- Your phone call cannot be traced and
will not be taped.
- Your name and address will not be asked
for.
- You will be thanked for any
information about crime that you can give and you will not be hassled to do more.
- You will not be visited or called back by
the police.
- You will not be asked to make a statement
nor to visit a police station or a court.
- The information you provide will be passed to the local police.
- Crimestoppers is not an alternative to
dialling 999 - it cannot help in an emergency.
- Crimestoppers cannot get a quicker response
to a problem than phoning the police.
- Crimestoppers helps people who have new
information, would fear phoning the
police direct but want something
done.
- Crimestoppers are interested in calls about all crimes including domestic violence, wildlife
crime, road traffic crime, rail crime, fraud, theft.
- Even a small piece of information
can be helpful.
- 65% of people arrested/charged as a result of Crimestoppers
information were not known to the police
or not suspected of the crime in
question.
- Calls to Crimestoppers make a
difference.
- Crimestoppers works in partnership with the emergency
services, government, media and businesses but is independent.
