North East Crime Reduction Officer Constable Urquhart said:

"Farms are an attractive target for thieves due to their isolation from other neighbours.

"Never leave your keys in the ignition even if you only briefly leave your quad unattended. Keep gates to yards closed as open gates can be an invitation to thieves.

"Always remove keys when not in use.

"Mark or customise your property so it is easily identifiable. This can deter thieves and also assist with recovery if stolen. Also consider tracking devices for high value vehicles and machinery and keep a record of all vehicles with photographs and serial numbers."

Consider investing in a quad specific security device such as the Sold Secure Diamond approved Suip Protector - www.suipco.ie

Alternatively, secure your quad or ATV inside buildings with good quality padlocks and chains. Ground anchors combined with an alarm are also an excellent deterrent.
