Children in Fraserburgh are helping spread the fireworks safety message to friends, families and the public. Youngsters from four schools have been working on striking poster designs aimed at making sure locals have an accident-free Bonfire Night.

The winners of a competition organised by the Fraserburgh & District Community Safety Group were unveiled at a ceremony at the North School. Their creations will be used on eye-catching flyers in the run-up to November 5 next year.

The designs of last year's winners have been turned into posters which are dotted around the Broch and surrounding villages.

The Safety Group asked all primaries in the Fraserburgh Academy catchment area to take part.

Group chairman, local councillor Brian Topping, said:

"We received about 300 entries and we're delighted with the response. Hopefully next year more schools will take part. It's all about getting the message across that bonfires and fireworks can be fun, but they can also be dangerous. We want everyone to enjoy themselves in safety on November 5."

The schools which took part this year were the North, Fraserburgh South Park, St Andrew's and Rosehearty Primary.

Melissa Eddie won the competition for primary one to four youngsters and in the primary five to seven section there was a dead heat between Gregor Thomson and Ellen Bruce.
