School Car Park Banner

Last session, Westhill Primary School Community Leadership Group worked on ways to improve the school and grounds. The group were very concerned about the safety of children when they were being dropped off for school. They decided that it would be a good idea to design a banner to display in the school car park as a reminder to parents that the safety of the school pupils is a priority.

The pupils hope this will encourage people to use the parking at Ashdale Hall or at Aldi and to cross the road using the crossing, rather than parking in the school car park.

A funding request was submitted to the Garioch and North Marr Community Safety Group (GNMCSG) who agreed to meet the cost of the Banner.

Two members of the safety group, local Councillor Ron McKail and Councillor Judy Whyte were welcomed to see the banner before it was displayed in the car park.

The school pupils and staff thanked the GNMCSG for their support for the banner.

Chair of GNMCSG Ron Mckail said:

"As a safety group we were pleased to offer support to Westhill Primary school's request for funding for their banner which the children had designed.

"The safety issue of parents dropping off their children for school from their cars whilst at the same time school pupils were crossing the parking area to get into school with cars reversing in a congested area was a cause for concern.

"GNMCSG are hoping parents will take on board the message on the banner and avoid entering the front of school entrance area."
