Car Seat Safety Checks and Advice for Parents and Grandparents

Staff from Aberdeenshire Council's Transport Safety Education Unit offer free car seat safety checks and advice for parents and grandparents from time to time.

Transport Safety Education Officers June Andrew and Lucy Cramb said:

"Car seat checks are a valuable opportunity for local people to have their seats checked for free as this check could save a child's life. Incompatible seats, loose belts or harnesses, incorrect routings are common faults which can increase the risk of severe injury or be fatal. Children under 12 years of age or less than 135 cm must use the appropriate seat for their weight and height. We do not judge people, we just want your children to travel as safely as possible."

During fourteen previous clinics in Moray and Aberdeenshire it was found that over 70% of child car seats were incorrectly fitted.

Come back here for updates on future clinics.

The Good Egg Car Safety website explains the vital importance of a correctly-fitted child restraint and shows you how to find the best seat for your child's weight, height and age.

It also helps you to keep on the right side of the law and most importantly help keep your child safe.

Good Egg Car Safety carried out 1,434 child seat checks across Scotland in 2012 and found that over half of all seats checked were either incorrectly fitted or incompatible with the car or the child. In some cases children were not restrained at all.
